Company Background

Princeton Applied Research was founded in 1961 by a group of scientists and businessmen from Princeton University and the Plasma Physics Laboratory.  In 1962 they introduced the first commercially available lock-in amplifier.

In 1968 the company developed their first potentiostat, the M170, this became the foundation of the Electrochem line.

The company was privately held until 1977 when it was acquired by EG&G, located in Wellesley, MA.  In 1985 the EG&G PARC was split into two separate divisions in order to focus on market growth.  (The Electrochemical Instruments Group and the Scientific Instruments Group.)

In 1979, EG&G Princeton Applied Research was one of the nation's first companies to open offices in China.  By 1983, EG&G began manufacturing in Ireland.

In 2000, EG&G acquired PerkinElmer and changed its name to PerkinElmer.

In March of 2000, Princeton Applied Research became the first potentiostat manufacturer to offer products online.

In 2002, AMETEK acquired PerkinElmer and the company began marketing their products under the brand name Princeton Applied Research.  Also, in 2002, the company introduced more new products than in any previous year in the company’s history.

During 2003, the company has completely revamped its PowerSUITE® software introducing new modules to include PowerCORR® (corrosion), PowerPULSETM (voltammetry), and upgrades to PowerCV® and PowerSINE® .

In 2004, the company released their latest benchmark, the PARSTAT 2273 potentiostat/galvanostat/FRA.

Princeton Applied Research  maintains full capabilities in-house for manufacturing and a large global distribution. With a strong brand recognition, extensive service capabilities, strong technical support and reliable instrumentation for over 40 years, Princeton Applied Research remains the market leader for research potentiostats and electrochemical research instrumentation.
